Things To Do in Bryn Mawr PA
Bryn Mawr, PA, is technically part of three different townships: Radnor Township, Lower Merion Township, and Haverford Township. These three townships straddle both Delaware County and Montgomery County. Bryn Mawr is just west of Philadelphia, along U.S. Route 30. It is toward the center of what is known as the Main Line, a grouping of Philadelphian suburban villages running from the city limits to Malvern.
The town is named after an estate near Dolgellau back in Wales that had belonged to Rowland Ellis, a Welsh Quaker. He had emigrated back in 1686 to Pennsylvania, fleeing religious persecution. Initially, the town was known as Humphreysville, named for the Humphreys family, who were among the early settlers to the area. The town was renamed after the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Main Line was constructed in 1869.
The area is well known for its Bryn Mawr Film Institute, where film workshops, viewings, current movie shows, and classic movie showings are alike. It is an old-fashioned movie theater in the area that is great for a more intimate and interactive experience. Multiple regional restaurants are great attractions, including the Grog Grill, which provides a reliable taste of local Pennsylvania cuisine and brewing.
