Things To Do in Furlong PA
An unincorporated community in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Furlong is right along the intersection of Pennsylvania Route 263 and Edison-Furlong Road/Forst Grove Road on the borders between Buckingham and Doylestown townships.
The village of Furlong was originally named Baretown, a misspelling of Beartown. However, a bear was often pronounced “bar” in the day. Thus, on all maps, the place is marked Barville, which persisted on maps until 1852. The village’s name had still changed a couple of times since. It wasn’t until a post office was established in the area in 1832 that the word “furlong” came up in conversation and was attributed to the town.
The area is known for being a small, close-knit community with a large number of friendly people who all look out for one another and take care of each other, with several parks for outdoor recreation and many great places to eat. There is even a general store that maintains old-fashioned decor. Some of the best fishing spots in the state are in Furlong’s area! It doesn’t have the exciting nightlife of most places, but it is a great place to call home.
